Humility of the Companions

27 February 2010

بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

On the authority of Zayd bin Aslam, “A man said, ‘O’ Messenger of Allaah! No one will do an atom’s weight good except he will see it, and no one will do an atom’s weight evil except he will see it?’ He :saw: said, “Yes!’ Then the man left saying, ‘O’ my sins!’ The Prophet of Allaah صلى الله عليه و سلم then said, ‘That man has believed (i.e. has true Imaan).’” [Chain of narration is Muttasil and it’s men are trustworthy, Az-Zuhd war-Raqaa’iq/80]

Advice of Abu Sa‘eed al-Khudri

27 February 2010

بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

Isma‘eel bin ‘Ayyaash who said, ‘Narrated to us ‘Aqeel bin Mudrak, that a man came to him and said, ‘Advise us O’ Aba Sa‘eed (al-Khudri) !’ Then Abu Sa‘eed said to him, ‘You have asked regarding what I asked before you. I advise you with the Taqwa of Allaah for it is the head of everything, upon is Jihaad for it is austerity of al-Isl?m, upon you is the Dhikr of Allaah and the recitation of the Qur’aan for it is tranquility for the dwellers of the Heavens and remembrance for the dwellers of the earth and upon you is silence except it in truth (i.e. in issues where speaking would clarify matter and make truth apparent) for by it you overcome the shaytaan [Az-Zuhd war-Raqa’iq/826 ]

Evil Affect of Sinning

28 December 2009

BismiLlah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim

Abu al-Adyan said, “I was with my teacher, Abu Bakr ad-Daqqaq. Something inappropriate took place, and I looked at it. He saw me looking at it, and said, ‘My son, you will suffer the consequences of this look, even if in the future.’ Twenty years passed in which I waited, not suffering anything. One night, I went to sleep thinking about this, and awoke to discover that I had forgotten the entire Qur’an.”[Talbis Iblis]

Hunger of the Prophet sallAllahu ‘alayhi wassalam

25 December 2009

BismiLlah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim,

Abu Hurayrah radhi Allahu ‘anhu passed by a group of people who were eating a roasted sheep, and they invited him to sit and eat with them. He refused, saying, “The Messenger of Allah sallAllahu ‘alayhi wassalam left this world without even satisfying his hunger with barley bread.”[Sahih al-Bukhari]

An-Nu‘man ibnu Bashir radhi Allahu ‘anhuma narrated that ‘Umar ibn ul-Khattab radhi Allahu ‘anhu was mentioning the poverty that the people had become stricken with, saying, “I saw the Messenger of Allah sallAllahu ‘alayhi wassalam spend the whole day upset because of hunger, as he could not even get low quality of dates with which to fill his stomach.” [Sahih Muslim]

Anas ibnu Malik radhi Allahu ‘anhu said, “The Prophet sallAllahu ‘alayhi wassalam never ate his meals at a dining table or in an individual plate, and he never at thin well-baked bread until he died.” [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Yahya bin Mu‘adh rahimahuLlah said, “A friend is the one who you don’t have to remind to remember you in his supplication, and that you don’t have to flatter and impress, and that you don’t have to apologise to.”

Abu Ja‘far rahimahuLlah said to his companions, “Can any of you put his hand in the pocket of his brother and take what he wants?” They replied, “No.” He said, “Then you are not brothers as you claim.” [Mukhtasr Minhaj ul-Qasidin]

Whoever has no Salah for him…

5 December 2009

Ibnu ‘Abbas radhi Allahu ‘anhu was asked regarding the one who abandons as-Salah although he has a healthy body, “Is at-Tawhid (monotheism) accepted from him?” He said, “Whoever has no Salah for him, then there is no Tawhid for him (i.e. accepted). Whoever has no Salah for him, then there is no Zakah for him. Whoever has no Salah for him, then he has no Siyam (fasting) for him. The Exalted has said, “Then, there has succeeded them a posterity who have given up As-Salah (or delayed them according to their timings) and have followed lusts. So they will be thrown in ghayya.[1] And ghayya is a valley in Jahannam, no one will enter it except the abandoner of as-Salah . [Bahr ad-Dumu' by al-Imam Ibnul-Jawzi rahimahuLlah ]

Allah has revealed to me…

9 November 2009

BismiLlah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim,

Narrated ‘Iyadh ibn Himaar radhi Allahu ‘anhu, the Prophet sallAllahu ‘alayhi wassalam said, “Allah has revealed to me that you must be humble, so that no one oppresses another and boasts over another.” [Sunan Abi Dawud]

…you must be humble…”

Al-’Azizi said, “Humility is to completely surrender to the truth.” It was said, “It is lowering of the wings to the creation and leniency.” And it was said, “Acceptance of the truth from the elders or young ones, nobles or weak ones.”

…boasts over another …

Boasting is claiming superiority, glorification and nobility. ['Awn al-Ma'bud Sharh Sunan Abi Dawud]
